OK...I got my answer.....you're in this for the money. And yes, there are plenty of e-zines out there that are just as good as yours ... some better. Not all on web sites but some are...

I have been a subscriber to your e-zine for hmmm maybe 4 or 5 (?) years ... and what do I get in response to what I meant to be a helpful letter to a fellow editor? ..."Wait a minute, you're not even a member, why am I even talking to you."... So in other words you're saying, "shove off"! Even though I was a subscriber when you were just getting started? The peons have become useless? Shame on you Danny!

I suggested you put pop up ads on your sites ... every one else does ... well, those that are in it for the money do, if you need to be recompensed or however you care to say it. Ask your readers what they would prefer.

The old fashion e-zine by mail with tut's on a free web site, or your *Inner Circle* route? I have a hunch they have already told you, due to the fact that you are constantly demanding that people sign up for the *Inner circle.*

Evidently not enough are, and you're getting quite nasty to those that supported you in earlier years.

I don't understand your contention. Supported me how? Supported me meaning you took my work for 5 years? How is that support? What; bragging rights about how large my list is? A free list? How is that support? That's just taking, and, being with me for so long you know first hand all the changes and problems I've encountered over the years. Being on the mailing list means you are kept informed. None of this was done in some dark room in the middle of the night. You should have been happy to support the sites for the lousy 15 bucks. What do you do? You "Cheat a Friend." I can't believe you even wrote that letter! I wouldn't have the guts. Sheesh!!!

I don't remember the last time you wrote and said, "great job Danny," or "great issue Danny." In fact, I don't think you EVER have! No, you write to give me "advice." How thoughtful of you... And, when it comes to preserving my sites and all the years I've put in it, you're quite right: I do have an attitude and will get much more then nasty to anyone that might threaten it no matter WHO they think they are!

I must tell you; I take advice from my paying members and even that is very rare. They pay the bills and are entitled. Like Duh here? And no; no popup ads or anything else no matter who would prefer it.

If you remember on the disclaimer you originally filled out, it stated "Danny's Daily's isn't for everyone and it doesn't try to be." This isn't about, and never was about what my readers would like. It's about what I like. If you want to go for the ride fine. I'd go crazy trying to please anyone, let alone everyone, and the work would no longer be mine. It would be a mish mash and would certainly fail.

My work doesn't deserve a 5 day life span. Give me a break! Where in the world did I ever say that? Simple; to go back to an email based e-zine would give my work a 5 day life span tops.

I don't care if you send me links to places or not. All the angry people tell me about all the other great sites and always do what you just did; they don't send any links. If you can't put up, then SHUT UP!!!

To be perfectly honest with you, had I known the monster this would eventually become, I can certainly tell you; I'd have NEVER started Danny's Daily's at all! My dedication to the peons, (your words, not mine) is the only reason I'm still at it. Preserving the sites for longevity is the paramount issue involved. Without the sites, your peons get nothing at all.

And yes, I was the one who started fancy fonts and pictures in email with the advent of AOL4. I was a beta tester for 4 and had my layouts developed before 4 was even released. I had editors left and right telling me it would never work. I broke the ground, not you or anyone else. I went to the web because I was still too limited by email and I was sick of AOL's constant hassling and wanted my work to last more then a week. I've never looked back and never will.

I was right! Whether you believe that or not, I couldn't care less. Danny's Daily's and the Living With Your Computer web sites have become institutions on the Internet and I will do whatever is necessary to insure their survival. If that means cutting free content then so be it! This is about a mother protecting her cub and you talk about Nasty? You don't know the meaning of the word!

I very plainly stated that the mailing list isn't what's causing the problem. It's the surfers that are. But the free side is the free side. What the surfers do to the free site affects the free mailing lists equally. I'm not going to write another full site just for the free mailing lists. It wouldn't be fair to the paying members who all of a sudden realize the value their memberships now have.

The members emails are ALL extremely positive. They know how hard it was for me to cut the free content: They know the hate mail that move has generated; and they're very gratified I've insured the survival of the sites. They paid their dues, they deserve to have the sites exist for them. I refuse to become just another dot com statistic!

While you are busy boo hooing me; paying subscriptions are up while bandwidth usage has dropped considerably. This is exactly what I was trying to achieve. What I HAD to achieve! While you may think you're entitled to something because you've been with me so long, I find it very sad that after all this time you don't think I'm worth 15 cents an issue. Not to even mention the new site or the Danny's Gold CD.

This says more about you then it says about me. Either you're a freeloader who wants everything for nothing or you've been getting a free e-zine for the last 5 years that you don't think has any value.

Perhaps you have too much idle time on your hands. I never waste my time on things I don't think have value free or otherwise.
