Reflections 2006: 10 Years Together
This is a 16 minute read, please take the time, it's important because it's where we're going: Danny's Daily's issues take longer to read. I have related links to all the pages mentioned and a Classic Danny's Daily's issue at the bottom.

Reflections 2006: 10 Years Together The Internet; "Where Have all the Flowers Gone?"
I didn't do a Reflections page these last three years because they'd have been the same as before. I didn't do one this year because I didn't really know how I felt.
Quite frankly, I don't like to open up for these pages. It's not easy to lower all the walls. It makes me feel, and makes Dan Daily look vulnerable. When I open up, I really do and I don't know where this is gonna go. Wherever it leads, I guess...
Today, I'm 10 years older then I was. Um, another way; I was thirty eight when I started this and now I'm 48. That's a long time, a whole decade. That's incredible; 10 years on anything. A hobby at that... You would think things should be fine after 10 years!.. But, with email postage censorship issues with AOL; and this new trouble with Pay Pal, it's not fine. Is it ever fine? I mean really, give me a fuck'n break already! You know?..
In the "real" world out here, these 10 years: My father had a heart attack, almost died and had quadruple bypass surgery. He looked dead even though he was alive. I lost my nephew David at 22 years old to a motorcycle accident. Our main office building burned to the ground because of a lousy 15 dollar extension cord. My brother almost got killed in a snowmobile accident. I got deathly ill twice and almost died myself. My young niece stepped in front of a car and was almost killed. Oh, and my dog had major surgery last week. And Duke isn't just a dog... Remember all this gang? I do tell you most everything in the email updates. I did a web page on the office fire.
Why do I tell you about my problems? So you'll know you're not the only ones in this mess we call life. So you'll know you're not the only ones hurting. So you'll know you're not the only ones who can't find a smile.
If I'm anything, I'm one of you first...
Those of you that smile easily, do so on a temporary basis and none of us gets out alive.
No, nothing is ever fine and that's a fact Jack. Yes, we get respites... A respite is what Danny's Daily's tries to be. But, and this is most important; even though Dan Daily never has problems,, ... I do... It's not him speaking to you today. What's disheartening about all this web stuff, is these are battles that were already fought and won. Now, we have to fight the battles all over again and will probably now lose. It's all about money now. Big money... ... Politicians are for sale and feel threatened by the net; oh there's a surprise... The Internet is taking a turn for big business and it's never going to be the same again. Really. They want everyone else gone. They're playing you a 30 second ad for a 1 minute news story. That's called maximum market saturation if I ever heard of it; they can't even do that on TV. There has never been a system ever invented, of taking your money faster from you, ever devised! Than the new Internet. You all know this is true. I myself, do at least a third of all my shopping on the Internet; even local stuff. Unlike the dot com bust of a different era, they won't be turning back... As a result, the Internet has become nothing more then a homogenized marketing engine. Where have all the flowers gone indeed...
Are We Worth Fighting For? This is the question I've been struggling with. What? Struggling? Me? Oh yeah, I hate to tell ya, I'm just one of you. I'm 10 years older and have fought my wars. Lots of wars... I don't want to fight anymore; life's too short...
The Dan Daily Sites I won't lie to you, I've never come closer to shutting the doors then I came to over this AOL issue. But what else would I,, ... do?.. Buffie would hear none of it. As much as she complains about the sites taking all my time; she can't imagine me without them. They're not just "The Sites." They've become a part of our lives. Reflections are great and we should all do it. It helps you learn something new, helps you take stock. Buffie and I reflected together: The Danny's Daily's mindset is our sanity and follows us wherever we go. I'm sure many of you know exactly what I'm talking about. No matter what, if it's to be found, we'll find the smile in it. It's a way of life...
In tragedy, that and God are the only things we have... ... I thank God the tragedies don't happen all at once...
Smiles come very easy in my house... I even call home and leave messages on my answering machine if I find something funny on the road, just so I won't forget it. Remember this? "When life hands you lemons? Stuff them in your bra?" That line came from a church in Amherst. No lie. A whole team of you do that! The outpouring from you folks is deafening. Wow, I just got goosebumps. I can't believe I remembered that. Do you have any idea how many jokes I've gone through? Our minds sure are amazing; what a smile... ... I guess I'm reflecting...
The whole time Buffie's known me, I've had the sites. I am the sites... We took our first cruise together taking pictures for you guys. It was quite an adventure and yielded one of the best Danny's Daily's issues ever made. It's by far the most well read. It just keeps getting better gang. My Dad and I had the time of our lives finding T-shirt pictures in Key West together. I don't think we've ever laughed so hard; he's a big fan, bless his heart. We took a vacation, turned it into a Danny's Daily's vacation and swept in everyone around us. What could be better then that? You always think "the sites" and being at play, first in everything you do. You don't even know you do it. And, it's very contagious to other people. You always have a smile on your face and you shine. The world is your oyster... It's bigger then we are... Buffie even points out potential "Post Naked's" to me. Really, she does; she embarrasses me. I blush; yeah it's true,, I blush... It's a lot of fun and we laugh like you wouldn't believe. We're like little kids together.
Is your house like this? No? Then both of you sit down right now and read this out loud. Believe me, smiles are my business. All you have to do is decide to change it. Read Danny's Daily's together and watch the magic work. Those moments together will be like you're dating again. Really. You'll be glad you did...
It's a mindset and stopping it would be a major life change to Buffie to stop it. Like I said, she wouldn't hear any of it. Bless her heart. It's really nice to have her support. I didn't even know I had it. There is something to be said for a good woman guys.
This is how this thing we call Danny's Daily's has effected me personally. After 10 years, I must confess; sometimes I forget who I am. Dan Daily can be a whirlwind...
By the way, I met Buffie on AOL. She never heard of the sites; imagine her surprise? Can you even fathom being married to me? She sure had to make some changes. LOL Talk about the understatement of the year? LMAO
And, this isn't doom and gloom, this is "Reflections" and that's what I'm doing, reflecting; opening myself up to you. Exciting things are also happening. I'll mention some of them at the bottom.

Where Have all the Flowers Gone?
I've fought many wars before and this is no different. I guess, when things run smoothly for so many years, you just don't expect a blind attack; or two! Still, I'm 10 years older; how much fight is left in me?
AOL / Y ahoo As you know, AOL and Yahoo have started a whirlwind with this thing called email postage. AOL's official position (at least today) is that they will retain the original White list and everyone will be happy. Frankly, I don't believe this for a minute, and AOL's already blocking sites they don't personally like. I remember a time when AOL used to publish unflattering news stories about itself. It seems like an eternity ago... When did AOL lose it's soul? If the postage thing goes the way it was originally stated; as I've said, The Dan Daily Sites can't possibly afford postage for my entire free AOL mailing list. There will no longer be freedom of assembly at AOL; Period! I'll have no warning of this! One day my mail will bounce and my AOL account will be flagged. If and when this happens; we'll all know AOL is full of shit. But I won't be able to tell you about it. I'll just be poof, gone. That's all you'll know. There are supposed to be no "thought" police on the Internet. The Supreme Court already made that quite clear. Since when did like minded people getting together become a crime? Who is it that feels threatened by that? Then try to hide it by calling it a spam fighter.
Charging you a fee for the right to speak? All that means is little groups will never become bigger groups. They'll never even meet. No matter what you call it or how you spin it; that's what they're doing. With glee I might add. Remember: "Liberty always dies with thunderous applause."
Normally, AOL trying something like this would be laughable. Why isn't it laughable now? Has this kind of thing always been happening? Why didn't we know until now?.. Do you know why the Supreme Court took the privacy stand? Their decision wasn't supposed to prompt a stampede around it... Because the court knows that this is the Internet. The Internet is streams of very many little people with individual voices. Our voice. And, we are all adults who pay, pay and pay again just for the right to be here. Our taxes built the Internet; we are the Internet. If anyone has earned the "right of assembly," we have. And, by their own accounting; we're the brightest and smartest people on the earth. Whoever feels threatened by that should feel threatened by that. I'd like to know who feels threatened by that... Our little voices are the very foundation of America. No one should ever tamper with that! Freedom of thought and expression is much more important then the nameless faceless business of the week, that outsources to foreign countries. Or some nameless faceless wacko group of the week either, I might add. Now, we have Yahoo helping the Chinese Government jail that very freedom. Without that freedom, Yahoo wouldn't even exist; HOW DARE YOU BASTARDS!!! Selling your soul for a lousy buck. No surprise they're in it with AOL on this one too. Good luck Yahoo!. Any American that deals with Yahoo in anyway is an idiot. It has no soul, it's a piece of software...
No, Freedom is supposed to be much deeper then that... Why isn't it then? It's a fallen world...
Remember, most people who preach free speech, only mean theirs. It's like that with mankind. That's why certain things have to be sacrosanct. Our forefathers knew this and so does the Supreme Court. The Pursuit of Happiness starts with that individual voice; where else could it start? The voice shall not ever be silenced, or the road down will be a quick one...
If the worst happens with AOL, I have a plan that will get the members their email updates. I'll develop a members only mailing list; the scale will be small enough to slip under the AOL radar, at least at this time. I'll compare my members lists to my mailing lists; pick them out and create a new list. Free AOL members will no longer get updates via email; free Internet people will. But Yahoo may be next. I'm very sorry about that AOL'rs, you'll have to take it up with AOL. If I have to pay, you have to pay. You never know, AOL might be telling the truth and I'm worrying about nothing.
Pay Pal As all my long time members recall, I get most of my hate mail from my inspirational pages. From dykes trying to get my email address suspended over my Father's Day page; to radical left and right wingers who don't like my Easter Page. Anything with even a little hint of being on the "right," also gets me in serious trouble. 95% of all headaches and hatemail come from these pages.
Sorry, they're me and I wrote them. Yes, it would be far easier to remove them and I'm not! Would you prefer I remove the "911 Tribute Page?" A whole shit load of people wish I would. That page has generated the most hate out of all of them by a long shot. It was both Inspirational and "Right," like duh... And, the 911 page is also the second most well read page on the entire site. It was so well received, that the family of the designers of the World Trade Center wrote me and thanked me for it. With very large tears, I might add. You see, they took it really hard because it was their baby. They considered every person who died their family. Sometimes, it's just not easy being an architect. Calling them the True Heroes of the Day, touched them greatly and they needed to hear that. I put it on CD and mailed a bunch of copies to them. I was honored to tears... ... I'm honored to tears just reading this...
The outreach of The Dan Daily Sites is enormous. Yes, reflecting. I remember...
That page got two and a half million hits it's first two days. And almost crashed and bankrupted the sites while it was at it. The "Easter" page is number one. Nothing will ever come close to these two pages. And who wants them gone?? I also had a major site try to bury me in traffic / therefore bankrupt me because they didn't like my Dale Earnhardt tribute page; remember that? Even Dale Earnhardt?? Where do you draw the line? Whose right is it to tell me what I can or cannot say? Whose right is it to say who can or cannot hear? That entire concept is foreign to me. What United States am I living in?? And no surprise about the hate either; I knew the 911 page would do that. Any Web Master worth his salt would know it. It hit the Arab sites and my life became a living hell. Use your imagination; not nice stuff... I was even getting it from Americans! WTF?! You guys never knew anything about it.
But, standing up for myself is nothing new to me...
My walk in life taught me to do that. After all, we're all in this alone and will all die. The mighty and the small; will all die equally. The least you can do is stand up for yourself.
But, I actually felt real physical fear over the 911 page; that was a first. Over a web page of all things!
Talk about feeling all alone and vulnerable? I didn't know if I should call the FBI or not. I got really scared; I'm not making this up. Sometimes, it's just not easy being Dan Daily...
The 911 page stayed then, and it stays now. This ain't shit compared to that! Believe me.
Showing women having sex with horses is fine, mind you. But heaven forbid you say something nice or tender about anything! Heaven forbid you should ever put your word to something as well; or have an opinion. I don't know, the last I checked, this was my website and I can put anything I damn well want on it! If anyone cares to judge my site by 1/ 400th of what's on it, don't let the door hit you on the way out. "Oh, the 911 page offends you and you'll make it your lifelong mission to lie, cheat, and do whatever it takes to get rid of it and me? All in the name of freedom?!?! Okay, how about Fuck You! And I hope the door busts your head on the way out! Moron... Death threats weren't enough to censor my work and you are who???"
Well, this seems to have happened again, only this time they went after my Pay Pal account. Short of any other way to "vaporize" me, they told Pay Pal I have a porn site. Pay Pal is a machine, I don't know if there are any real people left at Pay Pal. After six years without one problem, you'd think they'd at least call. They didn't, they just suspended my account, froze my money and cut off all renewals and new memberships. Just like that... Sometimes I just want to shoot this Dan Daily guy for starting this web shit in the first place! They sent me their "Mature" guidelines sheet. I read the terms of it and of course, violate absolutely none of them. As you know, I walk a very tight line here and always have. Not because of Pay Pal, because of me! If I wanted to be a Porn Master, you'd have no clue who I am and I wouldn't be living in Lockport NY! I can assure you. Yes, Danny's Daily's is rated "R." It's for adult people with adult problems. "G" rated Walt Disney movies is not my normal fare. Is it yours??. I have no problem with porn. It's just that my site isn't the place for it. Just as you would never see what I do at a porn site. It's really as simple as that. I occasionally surf for porn. I'm human, despite what my ex says. Anyway, I pointed this fact out to Pay Pal and they apparently didn't even visit the sites, or would? Can it get worse? Yeah, they wrote to tell me the "Mature" guidelines are only there because they have to have something in writing. They themselves don't have to follow it. Really, they said that: They don't have to follow their own rules. WTF?!
Obviously this is no way to base a business model, I have to be crazy. So, I'm in the process of joining a first rate system and am faced with still more hassles.
First Rate System? The best, huh? They check your site out too; they called my Little Dude winking baby head, child porn. They also called my parody sing along page If You're Happy and you Know it Bomb Iraq, "hate" speech.
... Which is most probably the thing that got me into trouble in the first place. It's been brewing; patriotism is out of fashion. But, I'm not a fashion, I'm just me. The wrath of the "Left" is really bad. It's funny, that page actually leans to the "Left." My fear was with the Right! Apparently the Left's so smart, they don't even have to read it to know what it says. In other words gang, they judged the page simply by it's title. Mindless, brainless, morons. I won't bow down to them!.. Too late, the page is there, for how many years now? I'll stand by it like I stand by everything I do. What else can I,, ... do?.. Like I said, standing up for myself is nothing new to me. Everyone loves to call me "right wing" when I'm neither left or right wing. But, the Liberals are a real nasty bunch and you have to be left wing period. They won't leave you alone; I've lost very dear friendships over this; right Art? When they want to get rid of you they stop at nothing and that's a fact. They'll lie, cheat, steal, or break most any law. This is not arguable. Maybe Right Wingers aren't so much different.
What do I think about World Events? Okay, after 10 years; for the first time, I'll tell you what I think. I think there isn't a politician anywhere saying anything I want to hear, or will believe about anything! They're not in it for us... Meanwhile, I see and hear Iran single handedly setting the stage for Armageddon. Loudly proclaiming it! They don't have the nukes yet because if they did they'd use them. This is what they are, remember? I don't know if any of you have ever read the book of Revelations, but I have. Our troops? Sitting right in the middle of a nuclear cross fire.
Other then a lot of cheap talk, no one's saying or doing anything about it at all. Why is that? You'd think it'd be the buzz of the entire Christian world. No, the buzz of the Christian world is about "The Da Vinci Papers." A fucking movie!!! Well folks this ain't no movie and you can't buy off nut cases! What's happened to us? "When will we ever learn?" We don't even learn from history that happened an HOUR ago!
Is oil that much more important? Have we already written off Israel? Speaking of Israel, here's a question I've had since I was a boy: Who's bright idea was it to go against the word of God in the Bible and put them back there in the first place? There was a reason they were gone. Who voted on that!? The blatant arrogance against God's word is incredible! This act will prove to be the entire Worlds Titanic! Am I the only one seeing this??
Maybe I am, but that's also how it is with mankind. Arrogant and stupid... "You can't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. Proof we're a fallen world." There's that word again. My long dead Grandfather taught me that when I was a very little boy. He was a Buffalo Cop and never knew how profound he was. I remember... His advice has served me well all these many years.
Our forefathers toyed with the idea of making it illegal for an attorney to be a politician. The real tragedy of our system is they only toyed with the idea. That's our nations Titanic. I'll bet they would agree. I'll even bet attorneys would agree...
Let me tell you what I am; I'm a patriot who knows exactly why I proudly served in the Armed forces. I also believe there aren't a lot of us left. And I will say this; I didn't serve my Country for a system that's become so polluted and self serving, that it no longer even resembles itself. But hey, that's just me...
Folks, I might not be the smartest guy in the world and I may be a blonde; but I'm not a rebel without a clue...
In the end, I won't support anything further then my Lord will allow me. That's my absolute and nobody likes that. Tough, nobody asked them; I don't care what they think, I only care what I think. They can have my body, I'm stuck with that. But they can't have my soul. That's mine! And that, which I was taught, is as it should be. And as it should be; I don't publicize it. Proof by my having to tell you this now...
There was a time in our Country when people respected other peoples views as being private, and didn't hold it against them. It's called maturity; imagine that...
"Oh sorry, A parody sing along page is out, but porn is fine? Oh I get it..." Really gang. This is what I have to go through every time; you can't imagine the bullshit from even more brainless morons. These net companies must attract them! "How did they ever get their jobs;" is the first thing that comes to your mind. ... Better off in India...
The new system is very nice, works great and is well worth the hassle and money. But it's very expensive. This will turn out to be the most expensive bill I have to pay. The CCBill system will raise my annual renewal rates from 20 to 23 dollars a year to start. Still cheap I grant you, but I'm not getting the extra money. A nice side benefit is it saves me from having to do all the paperwork manually. That's a big plus, believe me gang.
Danny's Daily's Issues I've been getting complaints about missed issues from the free list: First of all, you don't pay a dime and have nothing to complain about at all! Join and you'll have a full archives that goes all the way back to March of 2001. That's why it's there; 23 bucks for a whole year isn't going to break anybody's piggy bank. Let me tell you what it actually takes to do an issue; from the Members issue perspective of course. Taking pressure off me, no matter how little, helps in production exponentially.
It Doesn't Take Much to Kill an Issue of Danny's Daily's. Danny's Daily's ideally is a three day affair. From creating the folders, looking for graphics, updating the servers, to mailing the list out. If any one of those days goes to hell in the real world, most likely a Danny's Daily's issue will go with it. Keep in mind; I have a real life here. This is a hobby?! LOL A full assembly in one sitting takes from 10 to 14 hours to do. And I do this twice a week? It's also why I try to pack so much into one issue. I try to fill you for half an hour tops; twice a week. A full half an hour on one page? On the Internet? Without losing your attention span?? That's like a generation in time here. Yeah, your attention span is the challenge and it's a ton of material. That's also the reason you have to know how to read. Yeah, you have to know how to read and enjoy it; I make no bones about it.
Dan Daily Conversational English © is very hard to write; it's also very easy to read. That's why I invented it.
It's conversation based first, not the written word. Reading time is flow adjusted and matched to live conversation. Flow of the read is paramount. Punctuation is used to direct flow. Black Chancery titles are used because quotes ruin flow; they hang your mind. Italics are used to emphasize a word without stopping you. Paragraphs are assigned to live breaths and statements. It's specifically for a computer display and a scroll wheel.
And, It cuts reading time by at least half.
It works pretty well, doesn't it? Yeah, I know; thanks...
While I try to be a delight for your eyes and ears; Danny's Daily's is, after all, about writing. You have to hear me... I have found on my life's path that I'm pretty good at it... Speaking of a lot of material: This 14 hours doesn't include any of the mailing list work, the main site work, the admin work, the graphics work, or any of the research for any of the jokes or pictures. Or, did I mention dealing with "brainless morons?" Just the straight assembly work on one issue of Danny's Daily's.
I haven't even mentioned Mariah, Sal, or Little Nell; my family of computers. They have to be in top form just to have this happen at all. Mariah builds everything and is as stout a computer as there is, and needs to be. You wouldn't believe what she has to do. Sal, the safe, boring and steady one, does all the admin work and the sites can't function legally without her. Nellie, my notebook, works hardest, tries to please everyone and gets none of the credit. She keeps me in touch when I'm on the road and can also single handedly take over the entire sites in an emergency. These are the type of computers I have to have. Cutting edge equipment for you, cutting edge people. And yes, my computers have names: Mariah is faster then the wind... Sal is someone you'd never want to date, but would want to marry. Little Nell never stops and keeps on trying. And "Little Nell," if your reading this? Yes, it's you; long live Rocky Horror!
A lot goes on here gang...
And, you can't do that 14 hours in one stretch either. Issues have to be put down and heads cleared before any proofing can be done. What you're reading here is past the 132nd proofing. I finally lost count. Really. And I have to be able to see it like you do. Granted, this is a scratch write in full blown Dan Daily Conversational English, which is by far the toughest style to write; at least in my experience as a writer. It's not easy to hold a conversation on a computer monitor; especially if I'm the only one doing the talking... LOL Still, very lucky to do it in three days... ... I sure hope that's enough said about that...
Good News This new system I'm putting in can cross reference all the different things in it's master database. We can get into referral programs that are handled automatically. It won't bring a lot of money in, but every little bit helps. I've been getting emails from large corporations interested in having relationships with us. I'll follow that as far as it goes. It seems some people actually do read my sites after all.
Danny's Daily's: Bringing you the Best on the Internet for over 10 years! I believe at times I get a little tired. Look no further then how long this page took; it's turned into an ongoing work. But hey, if you're going to open up, you have to travel where it leads. You knew that going in... Besides, I like talking to you folks; you're my own... In this 10 years together The Dan Daily Sites was born. It was babied, coddled; and ferociously protected. The baby steps turned into bigger steps and it grew. It grew so much that it became an entity of it's own. Now it has it's own checking account and credit cards. It pays taxes and has it's own accountants and lawyers. It has support staff all over the world. It files legal actions on behalf of itself. It's an amazing thing to watch... Believe me, you feel really small standing right next to it. How did this ever happen?? Where will it go in the next 10 years? That thought scares and mystifies me. It also fills me with the joy and wonder reserved only for the eyes of a child. Remember? But, it's headaches and problems are all mine; not this guy Dan Daily. You may hear my voice in him, but I try not to be there; I'm the worrier. LOL
... The most important thing about the sites is the touching, the reaching out. Being able to bring you joy, even if only for a little while, is my privilege and honor. The web sites are merely a vehicle to that end. All the rest just happened...
But, it's like I'm living two lives and I don't know if you can understand. Dianne and Buddy? You understand...
Site wise we're doing very well, at least that's normal: Traffic is steady at about two and a half million hits a year; very healthy. We have great servers and support staff. We have a huge pillow of bandwidth under us in case the free sites go berserk. Memberships are holding steady with some growth. Membership use percentage is about 22% of total server outlays; very solid. I'm especially proud of that; you members use it. Any author would be proud of that. My Priceless pages have taken over the whole world. Smiles are my business... Speaking of the world; experts from all over it ask my advice on web design. My computer help work on all the major boards has created quite a following as well. There's a lot to like here. It's not like I haven't accomplished anything in these ten years.
But, the positives are all just ego strokers and don't apply to real life. Which is; it's a hell of a lot of work.
Then, There's the Mission The Mission is the reason I started this in the first place and the reason I do it at all. It's also
The Reason I will Continue to do It.
Giving smiles to those who don't think they have any left. Thank God for the mission. It makes it all clear, what was the question?

At my age, you realize that more of your life is behind you, then what's left to live. I guess it's normal to ask, "What have I done with this life? Have I mattered?" Thanks to you members, you've proven I matter. Yes, I can get very serious about having fun. Your wants and desires have allowed me to give other people theirs. "Fun" is a very important part of my life. I may build the plane, but you make it fly. This past 10 years has been my honor. The next ten years will be my pleasure!..
