Reflections 2002

One Man's Dream

The New Year is upon us.  I know it's a happy time of year for most of us.  Here at The Dan Daily Sites  it causes me to have a time of reflection, a reality check if you will; but, this year, I'm not sure I really know how:  

I'm overwhelmed...

My goodness, I find myself at a loss for words...  Normally I would reflect on this past year.  But so much has happened this year, it causes me to reflect on the entire thing.  Your man Danny is speechless. (I know it's hard to believe) For those of you who are new and don't know how all this started:  Please indulge me and check out my "An Ode to a Jokemaster," page and my Home Page.  These will give you understanding.

The Year of, of, of,,, Awe!

This is the year The Dan Daily Sites grew up.  The sites have truly taken a life of their own.  You know how I know?  I refer to it in the third person and didn't even know I was doing it!  Many of you on the subscribers tour caught me at it.  I don't know when that started.  Please forgive me if I keep mixing up "it," "me" and "we."  I mean it has to be an "it" doesn't it?  No one person could be "The Dan Daily Sites" could they?  I only hope I continue to be worthy of contributing to it.  

It's Scary:  It's Become Numbing...

I don't even know how many hits we get anymore.  The counters can't keep up and the servers must lie.  All this from a hobby?  In prepping for this issue, I did the usual visit to the statistics and all I saw were endless pages of hits, people, countries, companies, ISP's, and, and, and, and...  My mind went buzzzzz.  I can't possibly give you hard facts because we don't have all week.  And, it would take ALL week!  Really! 

And quite frankly, I really don't care anyway... 

I'll just say this:  December, typically one of the slowest months of the year for the sites, has over 100,000 visits to it's various pages.  The 12 Lays of Christmas got over 20,000 visits all by itself!  This is just in December alone!  I used to get 20,000 visits a YEAR!  In Total; and thought it was great, and it was...  I can't put this in real numbers that are readily understandable.  

I'll Try:  

"The Dan Daily Sites"  is now rated in the top 1/millionth of 1% of all sites.  We are rated between 200 and 345 thousand out of the 3.1 billion web pages on the Internet at anyone given time.  Yes, that's with a "B."

What would the top 1 millionth of 1% look like in the same room?

See what I mean?  I can't comprehend this anymore...  

It's one thing to read the ratings, the numbers and such, but it's quite another to see why.  So I decided to visit the Members site instead:

In my day to day life with the sites, I just work on pages and don't really pay attention to the sites as a whole.  We all do that in ongoing endeavors; we never really see the big picture.  As a result, I don't visit them often as a "surfer" and I must say; I was just blown away by them.  

Members?  I don't blame you for paying your dues:  I would to.  The members site is just enormous and continues to grow.  When I set out to give the paying members something special, I guess I wasn't kidding around.  It's grown so large, it's almost unmanageable!  

I'm so proud of it you just don't know...

Starting out as an email e-zine rag, going out to a grand total of four people; culminating into this is just incredible.  I don't even advertise!  I just don't know what to say...  I really don't:..

Except; How Could all this Happen???

We have readers from all over the world, in all walks of life.  

You're not alone gang...

I have a paid subscriber who is a British Soldier stationed in Germany!  It's become mind boggling.  Why not list the Countries on this page?  Just look at a globe and pick a spot with your finger:  We're there gang, we really are.  

Even in China where it's forbidden!  It's most humbling...

The World Has Changed:  I've Fought to Stay the Same

The Internet is no longer the Internet I grew up in:  Many pressures and changes have made it a completely different place.  Here at my house, I've fought very hard to stay the same and nothing's changed.  

My Mission:"To bring a smile to those that don't think they have any left..."  

Danny's Daily's is for Adult people that may have Adult problems...

This is why the Free Sites are so Very Important.

It sounds simple and there was a time when it was. 

Despite all the hate mail, I made the necessary changes to insure the survival of the sites:  By creating the Pay Members site, I insured the future of the free sites.  That's why I did it.  Survive and flourish they do.  

People can be so cruel, I just can't tell ya, some wrote such terrible things to me that I could never repeat them in mixed company and I'm Dan Daily!  In the midst of all that pressure, sometimes I would be so down and lost; I'd have to remind myself of the mission, what's really important.  That's what kept me going; kept me from despair.  

It was Worth the Effort and it's Working...

The Servers

In the ever changing flux of the Internet, I still have the same lightning fast servers I've always had.  Shane, who owns www.fivebuckhost.com, my server guy, was just starting out when I was.  He's undergone all the same growing pains we have and has a heart of gold.  You can't ask any more or do any better then that.  I'm very lucky to have him.

The Paying Inner Circle Members

What can I say to you guys?  Many of you pay double your dues and harp on me to double the price.  Yes, I know double is the going rate, but, I'm not in it for the money.  I'm in it for the "mission."  Though we walk a much tighter line, 15 dollars is affordable for everyone.  It's enough if we have numbers.  

We could use more, we can always use more members...

How do you thank people who have fulfilled a dream that wasn't even dreamed?  What was this "One Man's Dream?"  Simply reaching out.  But this???  

How do you say thank you for all the encouraging emails and countless pick me ups you guys send me just when I need them most?  

How do I thank you for proving I was right all along; if you build it, are good at it, they will support it without porn!

I Will Try

I want to thank you Inner Circle Members for making all this possible.  Without you, the sites wouldn't be here, they totally depend on you.  We passed the point of no return long ago and when I sounded the alarm, you came running.  Some of you had to be dragged, but you still came.  You help lift one of the heaviest loads off my shoulders.  When the Internet went bust and tens of thousands of sites went under, you were there.

But, I Don't Thank You for Me:

The countless souls who like me, like each of us, reach a point in life's travails and lose hope.  You help me give them that hope...

The stricken souls who desperately need a smile and are certain they have none left.  You help me give them that smile...

The medicine of laughter can cure almost all ills.  You help make that cure possible...

As a result; like I've always said:  I am very serious about having fun...

Giving smiles to those in need is a very noble cause.  That is, and always has been the mission of this thing we call "Danny's Daily's."  

Thank you for allowing me to share that mission with you.

Mere words can't possibly convey the feelings I have for you guys.

I was right:  One Man Can't be "The Dan Daily Sites."
